Columbia Metro Rotary is one one several Rotary clubs in Columbia, dedicated to service to the community. Each year part of the proceeds from our major fundraiser are dedicated to a community organization or project. The proceeds go toone of a number of community projects to make an immediate impact in the lives of students in the community. This year the Douglass Bike Project was chosen, and will receive a significant portion of its funding for this year from the club.
Douglass has a new principal this year who is also the district’s the “director of alternative learning” and she is very focused on getting the kids out of the class room, into the community where they can learn from community members and also build usable skills in a variety of settings. In Rotary terms it integrates community service with both vocational and new generations service.
