You mean we have to wear helmets??

Our second class was Jan 23 (Jan 16 was MLK Day = no school). We got everyone fitted with a bike and a helmet.  They were not too happy about having to wear helmets, but they relented and learned how to make sure their helmets fit properly.  They were not happy with how high we set their seats. Most of the kids are accustomed to riding BMX bikes which have a very different geometry than MTBs and were unaccustomed to having their seats set at the proper height. Bike Class Begins!

We started Bike Class on Jan 9 with an introductory session.  We went over the parts of the bike with the kids and told them about what we would be doing in class.  I asked the students what they thought about bikes, if they knew how to ride bikes, and if they currently have bikes. The general attitude was that bikes are like toys or sporting equipment; they are fun, but most of them do not have bikes right now because bikes are for kids.
